The Volunteer Association

Asheville Area Volunteer Guardian ad Litem Association (AAVGALA)

People often ask "why" GAL's do the work they do? Without hesitation these are some reasons.......

"I am a GAL volunteer because these children are in a situation not of their own doing. They need someone to speak up just for them. I do this work because it's the right thing to do for the children of our community!"
Gena Hixson, Asheville

"I'd like to believe we are the "Paparazzi" of the vulnerable and undefended; fearless, diligent, devoted, relentless, compassionate, daunting and brazen. It is all worth it when a child runs to me with open arms, seeing tears replaced by smiles, knowing a child is going to get the happy home that they deserve." Rhonda Sachais, Fletcher

AAVGALA "OUR KIDS"
SCHOLARSHIP FUND:

The Scholarship fund is now available from money raised through "The Human Race" and other donations. The scholarships are slated for items which will enrich the children we serve that are not otherwise available to that child through normal funding. Such items include art, music, swimming, or other lessons, basketball or sports camp, band uniforms, educational field trips, class trip, etc. In unique situations, a scholarship may be used for clothing, books, or other needs of a child.

You should have received an application request form in your October, 2002 newsletter. The AAVGALA Board is excited to distribute these funds to help enrich the lives of "OUR KIDS!"

Thank You!

Sincerely,

Dee Shelton
AAVGALA President
